Set in the heart of the Piddle Valley on the outskirts of the  

the picturesque village of Piddletrenthide, South House Retreat is a

unique place to rest and visit the beautiful county of Dorset.

Run by writer Tracy and her artist husband Martin

this 200-year old Regency house is a wonderfully tranquil


There are two guest rooms and a large bathroom on each floor.

The bedrooms have big comfy beds, fluffy dressing

gowns and towels, hair dryers, tea/coffee facilities, desks

and relaxation space.

The bathrooms have a range of toiletries, so you can

have bubble filled lazy soaks or a refreshing


There is a therapy room where you can book relaxing

massages and other holistic treatments.

The rooms are deliberately without TV giving

you more time to relax in the garden or hot tub, enjoy down time,

play board games in the large lounge, read in the library

or just sleep!

There is a homely kitchen with aga, open fires, studio space for

painting, a south facing walled garden, hot tub and the 

River Piddle running through the grounds.

The house is surrounded by beautiful countryside offering superb

walks and spectacular views of rolling hills. The amazing

Jurassic Coast is just one of the many attractions just

a short drive away.

There is no minimum stay, though with bed and breakfast,

half and full board options as well as bespoke packages available,

you are likely to want to linger!

Alongside the guest facility South House Retreat holds a number of

residential and non-residential courses for writers and artists.

Mindful, meditation-well-being workshops are

held throughout the year.

From May to September there is a tea room 

open at weekends to guests and non-residents, 

serving delicious cakes and cream teas.

The house, gardens and Victorian stables are available for hire

to photographers for private or commercial shoots

on an hourly or daily basis.

There are only a few guest bedrooms available, 

we do however, cater for small group functions and day visitors.

Later in 2018 there will be equine facilities offering DIY livery.
