Set in the heart of the Piddle Valley on the outskirts of the
the picturesque village of Piddletrenthide, South House Retreat is a
unique tranquil place to rest and visit the beautiful county of Dorset.
Run by writer Tracy and her artist husband Martin
this 200-year old Regency house is a wonderfully tranquil
place. The guest bedrooms have big comfy beds, fluffy dressing
gowns and towels, hair dryers, tea/coffee facilities, desks
and relaxation space.
There are also three large bathrooms with toiletries where you can
have bubble filled lazy soaks or a refreshing
shower, a therapy room where you can book relaxing massages
and other holistic treatments.
The rooms are deliberately without TV giving
you more time to relax in the garden or hot tub, enjoy down time,
read or play board games in our large lounge/library or just sleep!
We have a homely kitchen with aga, open fires, studio space for
painting, art and craft gallery, south facing walled garden,
hot tub and the river Piddle running through the grounds.
We are surrounded by beautiful countryside offering superb walks
and spectacular views of rolling hills and the amazing
There is no minimum stay at South House Retreat,
though with bed and breakfast, half and full board options as
well as bespoke packages, you are likely to want to linger!
Alongside the guest facility South House hold a number of
residential and non-residential courses for writers and artists and
offer the house and gardens as a studio for photographers.
We also run mindful and meditation-well-being workshops.
We rent out art studio space to guests as well as non-residents.
The summer of 2017 will see our new tea rooms and gallery
opening at weekends. Watch social media and this site for more

We only let a few rooms so we are never crowded, we do
however, cater for small group functions and day visitors
